What's good fam?
We celebrated our
1 year mark at our land lord's house. He's not a member, but he's the funniest
guy around haha! Patrick and he let us barrow his things for the Braai! It was
really fun to be around my friends Elder Legas and Lowe.
My new companion
is doing awesome at adjusting to a whole different world and culture. One thing
that I've loved is as we've gone through the training things it's reminded me
about some of the things I've gotten lazy on doing as a missionary, or some
things that I didn't even know! Haha the Preach My Gospel is such a great
resource for us, not even just missionaries but all of us! I've also loved
taking part in the BOM 100 days challenge. It's been surprisingly difficult,
but I'm really grateful for the challenge. I know it will strengthen my
testimony for sure. One thing I love that it says in the intro. is "a man
will get nearer to God by abiding by it's precepts than by any other book on
earth..." I know that's so true. As we listen to the spirit and learn from
the stories in the BOM we will get closer to God. There's no way we can't, my
mom use to say no one can go less active who is reading their Book of Mormon
and praying everyday!
I got to do my
very first baptismal interview and I can't lie I was a bit nervous! haha. Maybe
because it was a white person, but I got to interview Megan who is only 13. As
I asked her the questions to see if she was ready for baptism she taught me so
many things. It's amazing how strong her testimony is! I think the same is true for our youth. They
have such strong testimonies but they don't even realize it! As for our
baptisms we will be holding a big one on October 15th. We should have Olwethu,
Summariza, Mclean, and Lethiwe ready to be baptized! I'm really excited for these guys and hope we
can prepare them well enough. It's amazing to see how even people who don't
have the gospel already "know" these truths about the gospel. Maybe
they've just forgotten them through the veil.
There was a
tornado/hurricane/natural disaster here too! You guys must have sent it from
America! Haha just kidding it wasn't that bad, but It was scary. We were sitting in this
house and all of a sudden the corner of the person’s roof just started lifting
and the whole house was rattling! It was scary and as we were driving back home
there was a huge tree that fell on our power line. We have been without power
and hot water for the last 2 days! Cold showers and pb&j's for me! Not a
lot of people came to church on Sunday because they were helping others whose
roofs blew off. After church we ran around to 3 different members whose roofs
blew off. It was crazy and sad to see their houses just ruined. How fitting
that our lesson was on service.
Anyway I hope you
all find joy through serving others-
Bless up,
Elder Thompson
